When air is compressed condensate is the by-product, this condensate is mainly water however with an oil content of approximately 5% on average it is potentially harmful to the environment and must not pass into the wastewater systems without any purification.

The specified critical value by legislation is set at a maximum of 20 ppm (measured according to DIN EN ISO 9377-2). Some locally encountered regulations are even more restrictive.
